Itinerary
Day 1 |
Arrive Rothenburg ob der Tauber
The town is the epitome of medieval urban romanticism and has been immortalised by artists such as Spitzweg and Richter.
Day 2 | Rothenburg – Dinkelsbühl (approx. 45 km)
Today cycle from the Tauber Valley in the direction of the historic town of Feuchtwangen, the focal point of which is the medieval Market Square. Continue on towards Dinkelsbühl, the name of which points to the importance of spelt-wheat (Dinkel) growing in the area in past times.
Day 3 | Dinkelsbühl – Nördlingen (approx. 40 km)
After the romantic lane ways of Dinkelsbühl, a natural phenomenon awaits you in Nördlingen: approximately 15 million years ago a meteor measuring over a kilometre in length crashed here and formed a crater with a diameter of 12 kilometres.
Day 4 | Nördlingen – Ellwangen
(approx. 45 km)
Today’s route takes you through unspoilt landscapes and small villages towards Ellwangen, which is your destination for the day. The Basilica dating from the Late Romanesque Period, as well as the extensive renaissance castle are worth a visit here.
Day 5 | Ellwangen – Kirchberg
(approx. 45 km)
Today continue following along the Jagst River towards Kirchberg, “the pearl of the Altmühl Valley”. En route lies Crailsheim, where you should stop to view the Town Hall Tower, from where you will have a panoramic view of the town and the surrounding countryside!
Day 6 |
Kirchberg – Langenburg – Rothenburg (approx. 60 km)
Back again in Rothenburg you will have the opportunity to round off your holiday against the medieval backdrop of the town. An evening tour of the town with a watchman guide should not be missed!
Day 7 | Departure or extra nights
After breakfast your cycling tour concludes, however, we would be more than happy to extend your stay in Rothenburg!
